The Beginning of the Micro Daily Formula

Image of Dr. Kedar Prasad wearing a lab coat while standing in a science lab.

In 2001, the U.S. Department of Defense enlisted Dr. Prasad to develop a supplement to reduce trauma and boost resilience in military personnel. This led to the creation of Micro Daily, originally called the Military Micronutrient Formulation (MMF).

Validating Micro Daily required six years of scientific research supported by more than $24 million in funding, including $12.5 million in competitive congressional research grants and more than $12 million in private investment. Dr. Prasad secured all three Department of Defense grants through a highly competitive application process and spent two years working with Congress to obtain funding for Micro Daily's scientific validation.

During this effort, he delivered 17 scientific briefings to military researchers and leaders, earning recognition for the scientific merit of Micro Daily. The research program also included nine months of rigorous safety testing overseen by the U.S. Military Institutional Review Board, as well as safety and efficacy studies involving Marines and veterans. Over the course of the six-year program, Dr. Prasad led 14 clinical studies that established Micro Daily as an extensively researched, scientifically validated, and patent-supported supplement.

Dr. Prasad’s Three Key Factors for Improving Health

Micronutrients

Micronutrients

Micronutrients

Providing the body with essential micronutrients at the cellular level is crucial for overcoming the effects of the toxic environments the body is exposed to daily. These vital nutrients support cellular repair, boost immunity, and help the body detoxify, ensuring increased optimal health.

Gut Health

A healthy gut is the foundation of overall wellness. Probiotics, Prebiotics, and Digestive Enzymes work together to support digestion, improve nutrient absorption, strengthen immune function, and promote a balanced gut microbiome that also supports mental health and mood.

Healthy Weight

Maintaining a healthy weight involves more than diet and exercise. Supporting hormones like GLP-1 and GIP helps regulate appetite, fat metabolism, and weight management, promoting better metabolic health and a healthier body composition.

Dr. Prasad became interested in micronutrients with the goal of developing a formulation that could contribute to improving public health. Protection, particularly against radiation, became a major area of interest and ultimately led him to explore the potential of micronutrients as protective agents.

His work in this area spans more than 35 years. Through decades of research and development, Dr. Prasad ultimately developed a micronutrient formulation that he believes may have significant potential as a radiation-protective agent.

Nutrients can generally be divided into two primary groups: macronutrients and micronutrients. Both are essential for growth, development, and survival, although they serve different functions in the body.

Macronutrients include:

  • Protein
  • Fat
  • Carbohydrates

Micronutrients include nutrients other than macronutrients, such as vitamins and antioxidants. Although required in smaller quantities, micronutrients play important roles in numerous biological processes and contribute to the body’s ability to maintain normal function.

Micronutrient Levels and Antioxidant Balance

Dr. Prasad explains that when micronutrients are taken once daily, a significant portion may be eliminated from the body within hours, resulting in fluctuations in antioxidant levels. These fluctuations may affect gene activity and, over time, potentially contribute to genetic errors. He therefore recommends taking micronutrients twice daily, in the morning and evening, to help maintain more consistent levels of nutrients and antioxidants in the body and potentially minimize these risks.

Gut Health

Gut Health and the Role of Probiotics and Prebiotics

What Can Harm Beneficial Gut Bacteria and Contribute to an Unhealthy Gut?

Dr. Prasad emphasizes that gut health is an important foundation for overall health and well-being. He explains that probiotics can play a key role in supporting a healthy gut by providing beneficial bacteria that help maintain balance within the intestinal environment.

An effective probiotic formulation should combine multiple strains of beneficial bacteria with prebiotics. Prebiotics are specialized fibers and carbohydrates that nourish beneficial gut bacteria, helping them grow and thrive.

Dr. Prasad also notes that, as prebiotics are fermented by beneficial gut bacteria, they produce short-chain fatty acids, including butyric acid. These compounds contribute to maintaining a healthy intestinal environment and supporting overall health. Together, probiotics and prebiotics can help promote a balanced gut microbiome and support the body’s natural health and protective functions.

Dr. Prasad explains that several factors can negatively affect beneficial gut bacteria and contribute to an unhealthy gut environment. These include highly acidic conditions in the stomach and intestinal inflammatory diseases, such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and Crohn’s disease.

Antibiotic use can also disrupt the balance of the gut microbiome. While antibiotics are designed to eliminate harmful bacteria, they can also kill beneficial bacteria in the gut.

Diet is another important factor. A diet high in fat and sugar may negatively affect gut health, while a low-fiber diet can limit the nutrients available to beneficial bacteria and reduce their ability to ferment fiber and produce compounds that support a healthy gut environment.

Healthy Weight

The Effects of Obesity and Its Impact on Well-Being

Obesity can have a significant impact on both overall health and quality of life. It is associated with a range of health conditions, including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and prediabetes.  Obesity may also contribute to hormonal imbalances, depression and anxiety, low energy, joint problems, sleep apnea, fatty liver disease, asthma, and other metabolic and inflammatory disorders.

According to Dr. Prasad, addressing obesity is important not only for managing weight but also for supporting overall health, reducing health risks, and improving quality of life.

What Are GLP-1 and GIP?

The Effects of Obesity and Its Impact on Well-Being

Dr. Prasad explains that GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) and GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) are hormones released by the gut after eating that help regulate appetite, blood sugar, and energy balance. GLP-1 helps reduce hunger and slow digestion, while GIP supports the body’s insulin response and metabolic regulation.

Together, these hormones play an important role in the gut-brain axis, helping regulate appetite, weight, and metabolism. GIP may also complement GLP-1 activity and potentially improve tolerability, particularly with regard to digestive side effects.
